“I’m moving to Florida”

Synopsis

Listen Linda follows bubbly 60-year-old Linda and her sharp-tongued twin sister Patty on a road trip south, from a gossip-filled funeral to a fresh start in Florida. As Patty starts over after a sudden divorce, Linda refuses to let her go it alone — even if it means sharing a motel bed, a bag of sour candy, and a stop at the World’s Largest Peanut Monument. A tender, funny look at sisterhood, change, and what it means to show up for someone.

READ LONG SYNOPSIS

For over sixty years, twin sisters Linda and Patty have never really been apart. So when Patty decides — suddenly, and without much explanation — to leave her old life behind for a fresh start in Florida, Linda does what she’s always done: she shows up, uninvited, suitcase in hand.

What unfolds is a road trip south filled with bickering, nostalgia, gas station candy, and the particular chaos only a sister can bring. Beneath the humor is a quieter story about a woman trying to become someone new, and a twin who isn’t ready to let her do it alone. Old habits resurface, unspoken truths edge closer to the surface, and the two women are forced to reckon with who they were at eighteen versus who they are now.

Funny, tender, and often unexpected, Listen Linda is a coming-of-age story for later in life — about sisterhood, reinvention, and the stubborn, imperfect love that keeps two people tethered no matter how far one of them tries to run.

Director’s Statement

With Listen Linda, I wanted to tell a coming-of-age later-in-life story centered on women we rarely see on screen: two 60-year-old twin sisters learning to redefine themselves. Inspired by my grandmother’s move to The Villages, Florida, at sixty, after years spent caring for others, the film explores the idea that self-discovery and reinvention are a lifelong process.

Patty and Linda’s relationship is also rooted in my experience growing up as a twin. Through them, I wanted to explore the tension between independence and connection, and the fear of discovering who you are outside of a shared identity.

Visually inspired by 80s–00s Americana, Listen Linda embraces warm, naturalistic imagery to balance humor and melancholy in a way that feels intimate, messy, and deeply human. Ultimately, I hope the film brings visibility to older women whose stories are often overlooked and reminds audiences that growth and self-discovery are not limited by age.
